Lee Eul, the author of 'Nonexistent Words Dictionary,' is an enigmatic artist who defies conventional notions of self. He maintains a constant name while embodying ever-changing physical manifestations. She can appear as a young man in Mexico, an Asian woman in Venice, or even transform into an inanimate cup. Eul's artistic exploration centers around the intricate themes of language and existence. During his undergraduate years, Eul felt a deep interest in programming. While becoming proficient in programming, she repeatedly trained to view the world in the language of mathematics and logic. Such experiences made Eul aware of the limitations of our everyday language in capturing the essence of the world. This revelation prompted further exploration, studying the teachings of Saussure and Siddhartha. While pursuing the teachings of Siddhartha, who expounded on the relationship between existence and language, Eul even received the dharma name Tenzin Tsoejor from Dharamshala. After this series of experiences, Eul came to realize that there are realms of the world not yet encompassed by language. Thus, she became an artist exploring new possibilities of the unilluminated world by creating 'nonexistent words.' Eul's artistic portfolio spans diverse mediums, blending traditional forms like painting and sculpture with cutting-edge technologies such as visual programming and physical computing. A notable achievement is Eul's role as a programmer in Samsung Electronics' towering 'Infinity Tower,' a 20-meter-high media installation engaging in real-time satellite communication. This work earned accolades, securing the 2020 Red Dot and 2021 iF Design Awards. Another notable creation, 'The Lovers,' utilizes physical computing to generate an infinite water cycle within two watering cans, earning an invitation to Ars Electronica in Austria in 2023. These multimedia endeavors exemplify Eul's refusal to be confined by labels like "painter," "sculptor," or "programmer." Instead, they serve as a testament to Eul's complete immersion in conveying their message, transcending the limits of any particular medium. Empowered by the freedom of expression he acquired through unwavering dedication, Eul returns to their core subject: bridging the gap between the confined world shaped by language and the boundless expanse of reality. With persistent determination, he continually pushes the boundaries of our perception, unlocking the doors to a broader world. |
